A Study on the Analgesic Effect by Electro - Acupuncture

Abstract
In order to investigate the analgesic effect of electro-acupuncture in rats, electro-acupuncture stimulation was applied at the corresponding loci of Hyeon-jong(G 39) and Yang-neung-cheon (G 34).
Analgesic effect of electro-acupuncture was experimented by the Randall-selitto method on the basic pattern of 1 §Ô frequence, 15 minutes of induction time, and 6 Volts in voltage which are divided into 3 classes of wave forms of rectangular, triangular and sine.
The following results have been obtained.
1. By the changes of frequencies, rectangular, triangular and sine wave forms respectively indicated the analgesic effect immediately after and 5 minutes after the electro-acupuncture compared with that of control group.
However 10 minutes after the electro-acupuncture, 30 §Ô of rectangular wave, 1 §Ô and 30 §Ô of triangular wave, and 1 §Ô of sine wave revealed effective analgesic effect.
2. In case of the changes of voltages, all wave forms showed analgesic effect inmediately after the electro-Acupuncture, whereas 5 minutes after the electro-acupuncture with all forms except the sine wave form in 8 volts showed effective results, and 10 minutes after the electro-acupuncture was shown analgesic effect in triangular and sine wave forms in 6 volts.
3. According to the changes of induction time, all wave forms of experimental groups demonstrated the analgesic effect immediately after the electro-acupuncture, whereas 5 minutes after the electro-acupuncture with all forms except the sine wave form in 20 minutes of induction time showed effective results, and 10 minutes after the electro-acupuncture was demonstrated analgesic effect in triangular and sine wave forms in 15 minutes of induction time.
4. Electro-acupuncture of experimental groups showed more effective pain relief of 5 minutes and 10 minutes after electro-acupuncture than acupuncture groups, except immediately after the electro-acupuncture.
The wave forms of rectangular, triangular and sine in that order were shown for analgesic effect at this expriment. The analgesic effect and its duration of pain relief were under the influence of frequence, voltage and induction time of electro-acupuncture.
According to the above results, electro-acupuncture was recognized to be helpful for the pain relief. But proper conditions of stimulation should be highly recommended.
